This story out of Cleveland is a shocking one; a massive pile-up collision led to four people suffering injuries and one person dying. What was the cause? Reportedly, it was a driver’s error, but he then fled the scene.
The news from Nov. 25 reported that the 48-year-old man who caused the crash fled from the Shaker Heights police after causing a multiple-vehicle crash. The crash resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman and injuries to four others. A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition, and two others, a 63-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, had serious injuries.
The driver that fled the scene crashed his vehicle because of speeding, the police reported, and he then had to be hospitalized for critical injuries.
The driver has been charged with traffic crimes before
According to the news, the man who allegedly caused the collision had previously spent a year in prison for speeding while intoxicated. That was his fourth drunk-driving conviction, based on court records. He spent another three years in prison for being involved in a drug ring, according to those documents.
Today, the driver is facing an aggravated vehicular homicide charge. It’s not clear if he will face additional charges for fleeing.
This kind of crash is heartbreaking, because people’s lives have been affected due to one person’s bad judgment. If you are involved in a serious collision like this or lose a loved one in a crash, know that you can pursue legal options. You may be able to seek compensation for what you have been through and make sure the other party is held accountable.
