An 80-year-old woman, from Warren, was severely injured in a truck accident and was flown by helicopter to a Cleveland hospital Thursday after her vehicle collided with a truck entering the roadway from a private drive. The Southington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the elderly woman was driving south on Austintown Warren Road around 4 p.m. when her vehicle struck a truck backing out of a private drive on the west side of the road. The truck was driven by a 45-year-old truck driver from New Wilmington, Pa.
The truck accident occurred when the woman’s vehicle collided with the truck and the front of her car became wedged underneath the truck. “Warren Township firefighters and EMS helped free Bridgen and took her to Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was then flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where she is listed in serious condition.”
No charges have been filed in this truck accident case. Police are still investigating this case. News reports detailed that while weather does not appear to be the causing factor in this crash, “multiple fender benders were reported earlier in the day after freezing rain that fell overnight caught many motorists by surprise, mostly in Mahoning County.” Police in other counties also reported a number of car and truck accidents due to icy road conditions.
