According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, a fatal truck accident left one individual dead on Ohio 545, north of Crall Road, on Thursday. The truck accident occurred around 11:49 a.m. As a result of the crash, a 68-year-old man, of Mansfield, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle accident.
Reports detail that the man was driving a 2002 Chrysler Concord north of Ohio 545 when his vehicle went left of the center and hit a 1991 GMC flatbed truck being driven by a 36-year-old man of Ashland.
According to an article on the crash, “Lt. Michael Vinson, post commander, said a caller was on the phone with a 9-1-1 dispatcher to report that a car being driven erratically had hit some mailboxes on Ohio 545 when the crash occurred.” The eye witnesses are shaken after seeing the driver go left of the center line, strike mailboxes and then strike the flatbed truck hauling two crushed vehicles. This motorist was behind the whole incident.
An autopsy will be conducted on the victim at Summit County to determine ultimate cause of death. There’s no update on the condition of the man who was driving the truck at the time of the crash.
As a result of the truck accident, Ohio 545 was shut down for several hours as officials investigated the crash. The Franklin Township Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted.
