According to recent news reports, a runaway tractor-trailer cab knocked down a utility pole, which fell on a vehicle parked nearby, in Spring Garden Township, Pa. The truck accident occurred around 7:05 a.m. near the corner of Seventh Avenue and Stauffer lane when a rig driven by an Ohio-based truck driver was parked legally in a private lot owned by Stauffer Biscuit Co. Once parked, the driver unhooked the trailer from the rig and went on his way.
According to news reports and Spring Garden Township Police, the driver apparently did not set the brake properly because the cab drifted, rolled across the driveway and out of a gated exit. Once exiting the parking lot, the cab rolled across Seventh Avenue, struck a taxi cab, went down an embankment and hit a Med-Ed utility pole. The pole then snapped and fell onto a car parked on the property of a nearby business. The car involved in the incident is owned by one of the workers of the business, who also witnessed the accident.
In other news, a construction worker died early Tuesday morning after a traffic crash near the Bowling Green State University campus. The construction accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a semi hauling a flat-bed trailer with concrete barriers drifted left of the center and crossed the road. The semi drive through a construction fence and struck the south wall of the structure being built. The driver of the semi was taken to Bowling Green Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
